Quantum Ent-elechy, 2023, C type print on mirrored gold Dibond, 69cm x 69cm. Unique.
Quantum Ent-elechy layers quantum processed images from Heaney’s immersive video installation Ent-, inviting audiences to think about new quantum forms of life.
Visually quoting Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights, Heaney now centres and celebrates hybridity as a central feature of quantum realities.
Bosch’s medieval monsters are reimagined though Heaney’s self written code as ghostly, shapeshifting and ethereal, suggesting to audiences that there is more to reality than meets our eyes.
The imagery leads the viewer into a liminal space, which analogically references the ambivalent nature of quantum technologies – situated somewhere between heaven and hell.
The title, Quantum Ent-elechy – the realisation of quantum potential – captures a hopeful instant where the artist – by opening up a new perspectives onto the hybrid nature of quantum – breathes a newfound sense of agency onto the technology.
