Did you know perception is shaped by physics?
Take for instance the phenomena of object permanence, where you know an object or person still exists even when they’re hidden or you can’t see or hear them anymore.
This is picked up by babies from around the age of 6 months. Our brains are literally being shaped by the Newtonian physics of our macroscopic world, where objects do not just disappear and/or reappear elsewhere when they are out of sight.
And we never really question the seeming truth of object permanence.
Why would we?
But at the microscopic level, quantum physics reigns and object permanence is no longer a given.
“Objects” can dissolve and reappear in places where they are usually forbidden.
Obviously we do not exist in the microscopic realm, but how might art made with quantum tools help us perceive the world in magical new ways?
