Supraphrodite (ii), 2024, blown glass on extruded aluminium profile, 48 × 27 × 33 cm.

Created for the solo-exhibition Quantum Soup at HEK in Basel (2024), these two glass snail-like sculptures explore the contrasting yet comparable properties of glass and quantum particles.

While glass liquefies when heated, quantum particles become wave-like in extreme cold.

In both sculptures, the transparent glass cells, fused together into shapes reminiscent of solidified liquid, produce refractions and reflections of light from other video works in the exhibition, offering ever-changing perspectives

The titles blend Aphrodite, symbolizing beauty and love, the snail’s hermaphrodite nature, with “Supra,” meaning “beyond,” alluding to the themes of quantum entanglement and boundary-crossing.

The works were suspended on a hanging frame made of extruded aluminium profile, which is also used for prototype quantum computers.

The arm of the frame appears to be in the process of piercing the glass, inviting audiences to think of how technology intersects with the natural world.

Supraphrodite (i) & (ii) were commissioned by HEK, Basel.
